Bee blocks for Pam

Again not much much 'me time' this week - Kiah just loves being held and will fall asleep within minutes in the pouch but will cry for at least an hour if she has to self settle in her bassinette. Plus while entertaining a 2 year old the pouch is much easier for me to get out and about and do things but little madam is stacking on the weight and my back is really starting to feel it. Anyway..... I am sure Kiah will get better and I may need to become a bit tougher with her about self settling. I did manage to get these blocks done for Pam in the last of the 'Bee seam piecing downunder' bee. The quilt is going to be for her mum and she asked for fussy cut centres with a 'plane' theme. Hope she likes them !

A very special gift.......

It's very embarrassing that the postman has been at the door almost every day for the last 3 weeks, and it is also embarrassing that he knows me by name and has a pile of parcels every day. The parcel count today alone was 9 !!! A combination of wet weather and breastfeeding in front of my laptop has left my bank account looking rather sick and my internet shopping purchases getting ridiculous. Plus we have been receiving some absolutely lovely and special gifts for little Kiah.

One of the lovely things we have received is this beautiful play mat made by the lovely girls in the 'Bee seam piecing downunder' bee.

I have not been able to photograph miss Kiah on it until now as she had that lovely milk rash !!!! The play mat is made up of blocks that each of the girls contributed using the wonky star block.
It is just perfect - bright, cheery and fun !

What makes this gift even more special is the fact that no one else in my family sews... so the girls never get hand made gifts unless I make them something ! I will definitely be telling Kiah how lucky and special she is to receive such a beautiful gift when she is older.

Nicole's march block

March is Nicole's month in the 'Bee seam piecing downunder' bee. She requested a block that looks like this.
Initially I looked at the block and thought.... WOW I won't be able to produce that block !!! But......

I did it !!!

The only unfortunate thing is that I ran out of fabric for the last two rows ... I hope she likes it and can't wait to see this quilt finished !

Limited time

I am finding the hardest part of returning to work full time is the limited time I have to myself. While my job is fun and enjoyable, by the time we get home do dinner, baths, clean up and get prepared for the next day there is not much time left in the evening for 'me'.
Luckily I have an arrangement on the weekend that kinda works with my husband : he plays golf in the morning and I play with Isabella and on saturday afternoon I get 'me' time and he plays with Isabella. Sunday is family day and we do things together.
Anyway this afternoon I made these blocks for Erin in the 'Bee seam piecing downunder' bee:

She sent everyone different coloured fabric depending on what there favourite colours were. I got a great range of my current favourite pink and aqua schemed fabrics. She requested that we make blocks in any theme that we like. This is what I did:



This block was originally going to be a modified bento block but I got interupted with a phone call and I knew I only had today to make her 2 blocks. So I had to improvise but I still really like it.

This block I made using the good old log cabin technique

Erin also requested that we embellish this white piece of fabric with 'something' and add our name and state on it. I am really into suffolk puffs at them moment. Hope she likes them !!

Isabella's quilt - is almost there !

In september 2010 I started a quilt for my daughter Isabella. I managed to secure a small amount of the entire Moda 'Blush' range ( yummy !) and wanted to make a quilt for her bed which she will move into very soon. With the help from the girls at 'Bee seam piecing downunder' I sent out my fabrics and requested this block:

They were all super fast in returning them, but once layed out I thought the 'white square' in the middle looked way to plain. Some after some thought, I appliqued a different print from the range in the middle of each square and went around the edges with pink or aqua blanket stitching. Time consuming - yes !!!, but well worth the effort.

24 blocks later and a large 5 inch border, which was needed to fit the king single bed I am about to send it away to a professional long arm quilter.

So all that will be left to do will be to hand stitch the binding when it comes back and....

it will be FINISHED !!!
