MMM swap - recieved !

I have been away in Sydney doing several fun activities ( more on that in another post ) and arrived home happy, weary and a suitcase full of washing to be done - as always is the case after a mini holiday. It was just the 'girls' ( myself, Kiah and Isabella ) who went away and we had a lovely time catching up with family, finding new frocks to wear to my brothers wedding in October and of course a visit to spotlight!
I had several piles of mail to open on my return - the usual bills etc but I was super excited to see my package from my partner from the MMM swap had arrived. So as soon as the girls went to bed the suitase got left unpacked and I opened by goodies from Gina (Gmitt):-

- Gorgeously wrapped !!! Gina gave me some of the Riley Blake - 'Sugar and Spice' fabric range in pink and green.... I have great plans for this fabric already ! Some cute heart buttons and a needle threader in the cute little tins.

A cute pin cushion and some more fabric was wrapped in one parcel... and then these beautiful cushions in another parcel !

Ohh the cathedral windows are just gorgeous and are so well done... and the other cushion just looks divine on my couch

So with suitcases still not unpacked .... I couldn't stop smiling and admiring my goodies ! Thanks so much Gina - you really 'captured' me in these items ! I LOVE them ! X

Reversible fabric scrap buckets

Today Miss Kiah had a fabulous 3 hour sleep in her bassinette and I was able to be superproductive. I finished off and posted my partners items in the MMM swap. She is recieving the wonky star table runner ( see previous post ) and these cute reversible fabric buckets to keep her goodies in and her creative spot neat. I seriously need some for my own sewing space as it looks like a bomb has hit it !!!

The buckets are reversible and have a round base and despite the photo they are all actually the same size. I think in my haste to photograph them and mail them the one on the far right does not have the top turned over as much as the other 2.

I used fabric from the 'Make life sweet' collection

and......... I thought this cute 'fabric themed' zipper fabric would fit in with the sewing theme

Soooooooo when bored my partner can mix and match and turn them inside out to suit her tastes. I used th tutorial found here

Wonky Star table runner

I have been able get some sewing done with Kiah in my ergo baby pouch while I sew - not desirable but at least I get to have my 'sewing fix' !! I have been making these wonky star blocks using the bright and colourful henna garden prints and they are going to be made into a table runner for my secret swap partner in the 'Make Mine Modern' swap. I love there bright and cheery colours :

Having them all laid out - I think they need a border to make them 'pop' out. I was thinking maybe a solid - picking up on one of the colours ?

Any suggestions ?????

MMM - Inspiration

I am taking part in the ' Make mine modern' summer swap again - it is such a great swap I love it. Here is what I have put together as my 'inspiration' for my secret partner.

I am hoping it 'speaks' to my secret partner but to some it up - I would love a set of pillows for my sewing room. I love moda bliss and moda ruby in terms of a fabric range and - anything with 'hearts'

Home sweet home !

Home sweet home.... aah there is nothing better. While I loved being looked after and having sleep ins and meals cooked there is nothing like sleeping in your own bed and being able to do your own thing !!!

So I arrived home late last night, have a huge pile of washing and unpacking and all the usual chores to do but at least I am home and now we can get back to some sort of semi routine ! I am currently 35 weeks and 1 day - technically our local hospital won't take me until I am 36 weeks but whats a few days !!!

Waiting for me when I got back... ( apart from a million bills ) was my package from my MMM swap partner Viv - aka sew vivid - how lucky am I !!

I got :

- 2 fabric baskets - perfect for my sewing room

- a cute pair of baby shoes - they will come in handy !!

- 3 fabric covered buttons

- a delicious stack of fabrics in pinks and browns

- some vintage ric rac, 2 reels of ribbon, a ' I love quilting' ribbon

- a huge bag of buttons

PLUS....................

A cushion cover !! I was super spoilt !

Thanks so much Viv - LOVE everything !

MMM item 2

Time is limited and with the due date for the MMM (Make mine modern ) swap fast approaching I spent some of today getting one of my items done for my swap partner. It wasn't what I was going to do but I just had to 'go with the flow' in the end.

I ended up making fabric baskets based on a tutorial found here . I think I like them:

Designed for the swap person's sewing room - I though the safety pins and zipper fabric was cute !
A cute floral fabric with the interior the safety pin and zipper fabric

Not the greatest of photos but I think you get the idea

MMM bag

I put my name down for the 'Make mine modern' swap item again seeing it was such a blast last time around. I have known who my partner for a while now and despite stalking their flickr pictures I struggles to come up with any great ideas.

Also their favourite fabrics are nothing that I have in my stash and are quite 'out there' for me. Last night I made this bag using the Amy Butler Birdie sling pattern - I hope they like it.

Now..... onto the other item/s

Hard to get a great photo and the bands are heavily interfaced so they are quite stiff

I think you gwt the idea:

The orange and grey combination look quite good together !

Zippered waterproof pouch

I have a Year 9 class this year, who I am teaching basic skills to. Currently we are looking at surface decoration skills and will be exploring decoration techniques such as couching, dyeing, printing, use of other materials, applique etc. The students are then required to apply their newly leart skills to design and make an item that 'carries something' and of course they mostly want to make i phone cases and I pod cases etc.
Today I quickly whipped up this example using clear vinyl on the outside so it does not get wet and a nice print on the inside. I didn't have time to embellish my fabric and just wanted to test out the pattern I was using before I showed it to the students.
Am thinking about sending it to my MMM ( Make mine modern ) partner in her swap package..... what do you think ?
